The meeting of the top leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which is going to start in China’s city of Qingdao on Saturday, is going to be extremely important in terms of Indian diplomacy. In the recent times, the importance of meeting of the SCO has increased due to the fact that India has a new warm up in its relationship with China and Russia. In this meeting of eight countries including China, Russia, Pakistan and India, the issues related to the Indo-Pacific Ocean will be at the center. This is also one of the reasons why India is preparing its strategy with utmost care for SCO.
India will try, listen to the issue of terrorism
PM Narendra Modi is reaching Qingdao on Saturday morning. Apart from taking part in the SCO meeting there is a meeting with Mr. President Vladimir Putin of President of China Mr. Xi Chunfing and Russia. With these two leaders Modi will have another meeting within a month. It also points towards India’s changed diplomatic thinking.
Six months ago, steps were being taken to develop new relations between India and America, but India is now indicating that it has open mindedness with other options with China and Russia. The formula given by PM Modi to remove the conflict in the Indo-Pacific Ocean region in Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore is also being appreciated in China.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi himself praised Modi’s speech by Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj. In such a situation, there is no wonder if there is a big announcement about the Hind-Pacific region in the SCO meeting. This time the meeting will also decide that India and Russia with Russia will be in leading role in the operation of SCO.
Will SAARC replace SCO?
Considering the way China is engaged in expanding the SCO, it is being discussed in the diplomatic circle whether the SCO will replace the SAARC association of South Asian countries in the days to come? Although this possibility has been dismissed by the Foreign Ministry spokesman Ravi Kumar, but the future of the SCO is seen, the picture is clear. For instance, this year Nepal and Sri Lanka have been included as a supervisor. Both countries are ready to join The number of Bangladesh and Afghanistan will come later. While preparing to include Iran as a full member
India has also been made a full-time member of this organization with Pakistan last year. India is seen as one of the key business partners of Central Asian countries (Kirghizstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan). India is planning to connect these four countries with a connectivity project. With the said four countries, Russia is a very important country in terms of India’s energy security. One reason for the SCO’s importance is that there is both Pakistan and China.
PM Modi’s agenda
Foreign Ministry officials say that PM Modi will definitely present India’s agenda in the SCO. It will be Modi’s attempt to give this organization a very strict statement on the issue of terrorism. As Pakistan will also be in the meeting, the issue of terrorism will be more important for India. PM Modi’s second important agenda will be to develop common opinion on international connectivity projects.
